About me and my therapy practice
My work is based on the belief that you are the expert on you and that the most important thing is your autonomy and understanding of yourself. Through listening attentively, providing support with difficult emotions and providing a safe space in which to share I help people to gain more awareness of their thoughts and feelings and to feel more acceptance of them.
Many people come into therapy hoping for advice and it can be disappointing to learn that this is not the role of counselling. Others come wanting to stop feeling sad or hurt by their experiences.
Sadly I cannot take away the difficult things that have happened to you, but I can help you to release some of the pain and hurt attached to these experiences which may be preventing you enjoying your life.
If you are coming to counselling because you want to make changes but are finding yourself stuck I can support you to achieve these over time. By helping you to develop greater confidence and listen to your intuition I can help you build skills for life that will support you to live a fulfilled life now and in the future.
I also have an interest in somatics and bodywork and my work with clients often involves developing embodied self care strategies which support healing.
Practice description
I specialise in working with people diagnosed with or suspecting they have a neurodivergent condition, including autism and ADHD. Because the world we live in does not offer enough support to neurodivergent people they often come into counselling having suffered some form of trauma and need help to work through feelings of shame, isolation, grief and rejection.
I may be able to help you if you:
- Get overwhelmed by aspects of life others seem to find easy
- Suffer with anxiety or experiences cycles of depression
- Struggle with anger or grief that you just can't seem to shake
- Wonder if your exhaustion is actually laziness, because that's what you've been told by others
- Feel like you've missed out or failed to reach your potential.
As a late-diagnosed neurodivergent woman I have been there too and I can testify to the healing power of counselling to process trauma and start to live a fulfilled and successful life on your own terms.
I am passionate about helping people thrive and I can help you get to a place where you can finally embrace your identity, find ways to manage your unique challenges and harness the strengths of your condition.
I also have experience with complex trauma and an interest in somatics and working with the body to develop greater self-awareness and resilience. If you want to understand how to heal your trauma this is something I would love to work on with you.
I run a welcoming practice which is open to all and can see clients face to face, online or via phone or email. I welcome further questions, no question is too silly - so please do not hesitate to get in contact whether by email or phone if there is something you would like to ask. I look forward to hearing from you.
My first session
In your first session I will ask you to complete some forms covering data protection, emergency contact details and agreeing how we will work together. After this I will invite you to share what has brought you into counselling and what you hope to achieve from it. The first session is a chance for you to decide whether I am the right therapist for you and for me to check I have the right skills and experience to support you.
