About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified psychotherapist having studied a range of modalities before specialising in existential therapy. I hold an MA in psychotherapy and counselling from Regent’s University. I believe that one of main tasks in life is to know ourselves better, to understand our emotions, recognise modes of thinking that can hold us back and learn to open ourselves up to possibilities. I view each person as an individual with their own unique way of being in the world and with others. I have lived experience of many of the setbacks and sadnesses that are the hallmarks of human existence. Through gentle questioning therapy with me will support your exploration of whatever it is that you are experiencing. This might involve journeying back in time or it might be rooted in the here-and-now. The therapeutic relationship is key to whether therapy ‘works’ or not and so I will do my utmost to ensure that you feel safe, supported and understood by me.
Practice description
My approach to therapy is one of gentle exploration focussing on emotions and what they reveal about our modes of thinking, our values and concerns. Sessions are client-led and non-directive. I work with clients by eliciting descriptions that help to bring to light what is going on for them. I subscribe to the view that we cannot split our minds and bodies. We might not be immediately aware of it but our emotions are carried throughout our bodies and there is feedback loop connecting our physical and mental health. I encourage reflection on the body and how feelings and emotions are expressed through our physicality, particularly in our backs and shoulders, the gut and breath patterns. I am experienced in working with a wide range of clients and issues. These include divorce, bereavement, people with caring responsibilities and parents of challenging teenagers. I am registered with the Â鶹Դ´ and am completing a four-year UKCP accredited course of study. I am therefore bound by and adhere to both organisations’ codes of practice and ethics.
My first session
I offer a free 15 minute call/online session to give you the chance to tell me what you are looking for and to ask me questions and to get a sense of me as a person and how I work. The therapeutic relationship is vital for therapy and so it is important that you feel comfortable with me. If you decide you would like to work with me, our first session would include you telling me as much as you would like about your history and background, and how you have become the you you are today. First sessions just like most 'firsts' can be daunting but I assure you of a warm, gentle, open reception.
