About me and my therapy practice
Are you finding life challenging? Feeling overwhelmed by daily tasks or expectations? Struggling with a significant change or event in your life?
Whether you are entering therapy to help you manage an existing mental health condition or you're experiencing circumstances that are weighing you down, I'm here to help.
Why choose Counselling?
As a person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist, I will offer you a safe and confidential space to help you express, understand and process your thoughts, feelings and experiences. I can also support you with tools and techniques you can use to make things better or more manageable.
What experiences, challenges and issues do I work with?
My training and experience span a range of areas and I am used to working with many different issues and life experiences. These include anxiety, depression, ADHD, disability, grief, relationship issues (romantic and non-romantic), low self-esteem, trauma, parental and family issues, and big life changes (i.e. divorce and retirement). A full list can be found below. Some clients get help with specific issues, others seek more general support. There is no right or wrong and you won't be limited in what you can talk about.
You are important!
My priority is offering you a safe space to feel, think and share; offering you empathy and positive regard in the process. Sometimes I might offer a gentle challenge or reflection, but I won't judge you for whatever you have to say.
We will work together with openness and curiosity and you will always be welcome to ask questions and say what doesn't work for you.
Whoever you are, whatever your background, your whole self is welcome during our time together and I will always try to ensure you feel heard and supported.
Curious?
Finding a counsellor is a big first step to getting support, so I offer a no-pressure discovery call. I can talk you through what to expect and you can decide if I feel like the right person to help.
Practice description
How we'll work together...
First and foremost, we'll start by exploring what has brought you to therapy and if there are any specific goals you'd like to work towards. Whatever the case, we'll work at your pace.
In the counselling process you may experience a variety of emotions and we can work together to help you understand and explore these when you are ready. Though some sessions might feel heavy with the things you express, others might be celebratory or affirmations. There is no right or wrong.
I will support you each step of the way, wherever you're starting from.
I am a highly-trained and experienced professional who practices under a strict ethical code. This gives my clients the confidence that they are being supported by someone who has their best interests at heart. Counselling is my vocation and I consider it a privilege to support people at difficult times in their lives.
Having specialised my academic career in ethics and diversity, I offer a neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, disability, spirituality & faith and BME welcoming space.
Sessions can take place online using Zoom, Microsoft Teams or via phone call.
My first session
During your first session, you'll be invited to talk about what has brought you to therapy and what goals you might have for the time we're working together.
I'll talk you through confidentiality and tell you more about how I work, and offer you the opportunity to ask any questions.
From there, you'll be welcome to share more about whatever it is you'd like to start working with or offer more detail about what we've discussed.
I don't ask clients to complete assessments as I prefer to hear how you're feeling and what's going on for you directly. However, if you would find it helpful we can complete what are called PHQ & GAD forms to see how you've been feeling lately and identify areas to look at from there.
At no point will I pressure you to talk about anything you're not ready to share and I won't judge what you bring into the space.
It's okay if you're nervous or coming to the first session feels like a big step, I'm here to support you through calm reassurance and clarity on what to expect.
