About me and my therapy practice

I understand that taking the step towards seeking support through counselling can be daunting and often a bit of a journey into the unknown. I will take a friendly and thoughtful approach to support you through the process at every stage with your individual needs in mind. Whatever it is that you are struggling with in your life, I am committed to making sure you are heard and understood with respect, compassion and without judgement.

Sometimes our life circumstances and struggles can feel overwhelming. I will support you in finding ways to cope, offering new perspectives and in making the changes that work for you.

As a therapist whose practice is rooted in the Person-Centred approach, I wholeheartedly believe that you are your own best expert. Every individual is valued and accepted as themselves and for their own unique lived experience. I will work with you to help you to know and understand yourself better and to discover how to meet the challenges in your life in the ways that are uniquely right for you.

Aside from my counselling work and training, I can draw on my experiences of over two decades of supporting vulnerable people as a legal professional. This has taught me to believe that no matter your age or life circumstances, everyone has the capacity for change, growth and healing.

Practice description

First and foremost, I will work with you to build a relationship of trust based upon the principles of Person-Centred counselling. This approach is founded in the belief that people know themselves best and what they need, but sometimes that knowledge gets buried under all the difficulties life throws at us.

As a counsellor, my role is to create a relationship based on empathy, warmth and acceptance to support you in understanding and accepting yourself. We will work together to discover what you need to make life better or easier to cope with. Whether that takes one session or requires a long-term approach differs for every person and will be entirely up to you.

My first session

I will use the first session to get an understanding of what has brought you to counselling at this time and what your needs and expectations might be.

Most importantly, it will be an opportunity to build rapport and get to know each other so that you can feel comfortable in sharing your thoughts and feelings with me.
