About me and my therapy practice

As-Salamu Alaykum السلام علیكم and Welcome!

I am Anaum Hammad. An experienced Integrative Gestalt Therapist currently working in-person and online with individuals, couples and groups. I believe in working collaboratively and offer a safe, empathic and transformational space that allows growth and healing.

As children, most of us, are taught how to brush our teeth , wash our hands and tie our laces. However, we are not always taught how to take care of our hearts, how to feed our souls and nurture our body and minds.

Moving through life without these skills can leave us feeling overwhelmed, lost, confused and hopeless when faced with life challenges and change. We may find it difficult or not know how to, altogether cope with or regulate our emotions and body and practice self-care.

These experiences can manifest as interruptions that interfere with our relationships with self, others and leave us feeling stuck, afraid, angry, stressed. It can disconnect us from ourselves and others and have an immense impact on our personal and professional relationships.

In moments such as these, it can feel difficult to seek support or feel hopeful, which is why I appreciate the immense courage it takes to seek and reach out for support and therapy.

With 10 years of work experience in social care, public relations, charity and clinical experience with the NHS, Waterloo Community Counselling and The Gestalt Centre, I have extensive experience working with clients from all walks of life, facing all kinds of personal, professional and relationship challenges.

Practice description

My practice is centered around 'YOU'.

My priority is to cultivate a therapeutic container that feels safe, trusting and empathic, for you to explore and share your experiences at your own pace and comfort. I offer a space that supports you to connect with your internal wisdom and power.

Specializing in relationship with self and identity, my approach provides holistic, intersectional and relational attention that encourages your awareness and access to your own wisdom and strength, of mind, body, heart and spirit.

Together, we unlearn old patterns and beliefs that no longer serve you and learn new ways of being, coping, regulating, connecting to yourself and others. Creatively we explore how to use these as tools to fully integrate all aspects of ‘self’, ultimately leading to fuller healing and growth.

When you feel 'whole' you experience yourself and the world around you more 'wholly'.

This relational therapeutic space can be an opportunity to experiment and explore patterns with support, you may not have had before. It can be a chance to do things differently, make mistakes and try again, sometimes for the very first time.

Therapy is not and should not be a privilege, which is why I am in constant effort to offer therapy that is flexible and accessible to as many as possible. Informed by an anti-oppressive, anti-racist lens, I hold inclusivity, diversity, equity and 'humanity' at the forefront of my practice.

Integrity, authenticity and respect for you, myself and the therapeutic space are fundamental aspects of my practice. I adhere by ethical guidelines to prioritise a safe and supportive space where you can heal, grow and reach your therapeutic goals.

My hope is that you feel seen, heard, have a space to be authentic in your expression and experiences and are held and supported throughout your therapeutic journey with me.

My first session

Our first session will give us the chance to get acquainted with each other and give you a sense of what our work together could look like.

It will also give you the opportunity to discuss any questions/concerns about my practice and therapy in general, as well as, share your reasons for coming to therapy.

Prior to scheduling the first session, I offer a 15 minute free of charge and non-binding phone call to discuss your needs.

I see the initial session as a stand-alone session in itself and hope you find some value in it, have a positive experience and leave with a sense of comfort and care.
