About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Beth (she/her) and I am a qualified person-centred therapist. I also teach Counselling students who are doing their Level 2 Certificate.
I describe my practice as Person-Centred, also known as Humanistic, meaning that you are the one setting the pace and the agenda of our therapy sessions. You are the expert on yourself and your lived experiences.
My role is to provide a safe space, free of judgement, full of understanding, where you can explore what is important to you and how you feel freely. Nothing is "too small" to bring to therapy; if it is affecting you, then it matters to me.
My practice is gender-affirming and LGBTQIA+ embracing.
Practice description
During our sessions, I may reflect back things I'm noticing or hearing, and together we can be curious about what is going on for you and why that might be.
My practice is non-directive, so I will never advise you or tell you what to do, or prescribe treatment. I might gently challenge you, and highlight behavioural patterns I'm noticing if that feels appropriate. Sometimes we just need to have our pain witnessed.
The most effective therapy hinges on a good relationship with your therapist; so if you think that we might be a good fit, and you would like to arrange a free initial chat about sessions, please get in touch.
My first session
In our first session, I will ask you what has brought you to Counselling at this time, and what you would like to gain from speaking with a counsellor.
We will go over a counselling contract that will have been sent out after a free initial chat.
I will ask you if you have had counselling before and how you found it, and we will do a brief assessment covering any diagnoses you have or any medication you may be taking.
The remainder of the session will be for you to begin exploring the thoughts and feelings you have that have brought you to therapy.
