About me and my therapy practice

Hello :) I'm Jen, welcome to my page.

Please note I am not currently providing face to face appointments

I’m currently offering online (video and/or audio call) counselling/therapy sessions for UK based clients. I’m currently offering a FREE 20-minute consultation - this is usually by phone, but we can arrange other options to suit your needs and preferences. A consultation is just an informal chat between the two of us, so that we can discuss about how best I can support you, and make sure we’re a good fit for working together.

About you

You may have something specific you'd like to focus on; you may just not feel quite yourself or not sure what you're feeling. I know how it is to be in the "other chair", as a client, it's OK if you're feeling nervous or unsure what to say. My hope is that we can collaboratively build a working relationship together, empowering you to find a way forward.

About me

My name is Jen, I’m a queer, neurodivergent, therapist based in Liverpool (UK) where I live with my two cats and some musical instruments. I currently work in Private Practice (that means I'm a self-employed therapist) and also for a charity specialising in neurological conditions. I've previously provided counselling services for a children's and young people's charity and an LGBTQIA* charity.

I have an interest in working with people (clients – that’s you!) who are LGBTQIA*, gender, sex and relationship diverse (GSRD), neurodivergent (including C-PTSD, BPD/EUPD), living with neurological conditions, long-term health conditions, low self-worth, anxiety, depression, and stress.

Although I do have these interests, I have much experience in working with a wide range of issues and I offer you a non-judgemental space to explore all your experiences. You don't have to fit these "categories" or "labels" to work with me. Do get in touch if it feels like I might be the right counsellor for you and we can check if we're a good fit to work together.

Practice description

I'm a Person-Centred and Experiential Therapist. I offer a non-judgemental space for you to explore your experiences, emotions, and who you are. The relationship between client and therapist is so important to help you grow; my aim is to create a space for collaboration, choice, trust & safety to develop. By building a collaborative and trusting relationship together, and through gentle challenges, the goal is for you to be able to recognise and build on your strengths; develop your self-worth; value your feelings, process emotions you've maybe been pushing down; gain deeper understanding of yourself and others; and living a more authentic life.

My practice is realistic (as am I) to the challenges of the current society we live in - masking & unmasking ourselves can present unique barriers. I understand that many of our struggles in life stem from systemic issues. I acknowledge my own identity and experiences brings limitations and advantages to our work together.

I am a warm, genuine, and compassionate therapist with a good sense of humour. I really enjoy working with a wide range of clients and presenting issues. I also have previous training in psychology and music so we can also explore creative and psycho-educational tools together.

I'm a fully insured, and qualified, Registered Member of the Â鶹ԭ´´ and abide by their Ethical Framework.

I'm qualified in Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice to the highest level available (in England) - master's degree with distinction. I also hold a BPS accredited degree in psychology and music & certificates in Counselling Skills. I complete continuous professional development training to ensure I am working safely with you.

My first session

Once we’ve had our free consultation chat and decided that we’re a good fit to work together, I’ll email you a therapy agreement (often called a contract) which outlines how we’ll work together going forward. We’ll go over this together during our first session so that we can both feel happy and comfortable with our expectations of each other. This is to ensure that we’re both clear about what the work will look like, information about confidentiality, cancellations, payments, and other such important details. This is also another chance for us to both ask any questions and get to know each other. I don't complete any specific measures or assessments with you. We’ll usually spend time looking at any specific issues you’d like to focus on; what our work might look and feel like; and exploring what things are like for you right now.

What I can help with

Abuse, ADD / ADHD, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Cultural issues, Depression, Disability, Health related issues, Identity issues, LGBTQ+ counselling, Loss, Menopause, Men's issues, Neurodiversity, Post-traumatic stress, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Trauma, Vegan allied, Women's issues, Work related issues
