About me and my therapy practice

Hi! I'm Ro (they/them). I work in a way which prioritises creating a relationship that feels safe enough for you to experiment with allowing more of yourself to be met, known, and responded to, so that together we can explore whatever challenges you want to bring to therapy.

Every moment of our lives happens in the context of human relationship – whether with ourselves or with another, in friendships or partnerships, or between groups of people. How we feel and behave in relationships determines the world we live in. And yet – you might experience relationships as triggering, confusing, or frustrating, having a huge impact on other areas of your life.

Many of these challenges can be effectively worked with and changed in the context of relationship, too – and that’s where therapy comes in.

I am queer, genderfluid, and sex-positive. I have many years’ experience in LGBTQIA+ communities, and of alternative relationship styles such as polyamory. These experiences of feeling different and finding belonging, and rewriting conventional cultural scripts, inform the way I work.

Many of the people I work with are queer, LGBTQIA+, questioning monogamy or exploring non-monogamy, but not all. Many people I work with simply appreciate having someone to talk with who is sex-positive and open to many different styles of self-expression in relationships.

Practice description

I am trained in Psychosynthesis and transpersonal psychology, which includes an awareness not only of your history but also of your future: who you are becoming, and what seeds are wanting to grow in your life. It's an integrative approach which borrows theory and practice from other methods such as psychodynamic theory, gestalt therapy, family constellations work, and others.

Psychosynthesis also emphasises the importance of a connection to something greater than yourself. This could be nature, creativity, human relationship, a sense of purpose, or a specific spiritual tradition or faith. I work in ways which support you to develop a sense of greater connection to the world, so that you can feel a deeper sense of ease, agency, and meaning in your life.

My first qualification was in relationship and intimacy coaching in a closely-related approach, and I include the tools and knowledge from this in my therapy practice now too.

I usually offer 50 minute sessions on a weekly, open-ended basis, but I aim to be flexible where possible, so please do let me know if you have different needs.

My first session

I offer a free 15-20 minute call (over video if you like) so that we can say hello, and talk about any questions you might have about therapy or the way I work. After this, if you'd like to go ahead, I'll send over a brief info form to gather some basic details from you, and we'll book in an initial session.

In our initial session I'll ask you more about what brings you to therapy, and we'll explore where you are at the moment. I'll probably ask you a bit about your history and childhood to start building up a picture of your life, and we might agree on what we'll focus on to begin with.

After our initial session you can go away and decide whether you'd like to continue, and if you would, we'll continue meeting at our agreed time.
