Availability
I run both morning and afternoon sessions during the working week depending on availability from my practice in Tunbridge Wells. In addition, some later afternoon and evening sessions can sometimes be arranged.
About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced and qualified psychotherapist with a Masters’ degree in psychodynamic psychotherapy and a first degree in psychology, together with a Certificate in Clinical Assessment. My clinical experience includes working for many years as a therapist in an acute NHS mental health unit and with MIND, as well as with Samaritans.
My approach is psychodynamic – this means we examine how your past experiences and perceptions may have set up unconscious attitudes and patterns of behaviour that are now causing problems. Our earliest experiences can result in us adopting particular ways of behaving, often as a way to protect and defend ourselves against distressing events and bury memories. Even when original problems and crises may have passed, we can still be stuck in defensive behaviour that is no longer appropriate – or even damaging.
By looking openly and honestly at who we are ‘today’ and reflecting on what happened to us ‘back then’ we can begin to get at the root of significant difficulties. And by understanding this, we can look for long-lasting and fundamental change.
In our sessions, we talk freely about whatever comes to mind. Our sessions address unconscious issues behind feelings and behaviour, which we explore in an open and honest way, without judgement. This takes place in an understanding, safe and strictly confidential environment.
While I offer some online sessions, the psychodynamic approach is more effective face-to-face particularly in the early stages.
Practice description
I offer face-to-face sessions from a dedicated space in Tunbridge Wells. Some online sessions may also be available to clients later in their therapy; online sessions are often less effective at early stages.
My first session is an assessment session of 90 minutes – this session is free and involves no ongoing commitments.
Subsequent sessions last 50 minutes and cost £65. Some limited concessions may be available. I offer both short-term and longer term therapy.
My first session
The first session is face-to-face and lasts 90 minutes. This session is free and involves no commitment to anything further.
The time is used to get a deeper understanding both of the issues facing the client and, for the client, what they may expect of me and my practice. It is a chance to see how we may work together, how I may help or whether a different service might be advisable.
As with all sessions, this takes place in complete confidentiality.
