About me and my therapy practice

I originally trained and qualified in the early 2000's at Oxford University before moving on to work in a variety of settings including rural community-based projects, London out-patient services and secure forensic hospitals.  I returned to work at Oxford University Counselling Service in 2017 working with students of the University.  For the last three years I held the role of  Deputy Head of Service responsible for day to day running and management .  Having  recently left,  I'm now working in private practice to do more of what I love, which is to work therapeutically with people.

My approach is compassionate, respectful and thoughtful informed by theory but shaped through working with people over many years.

I offer the following to adult (18+) individuals:-

1. Counselling/psychotherapy working either to an agreed number of sessions  or open ended.

2. Brief, focused interventions to navigate blocks to performance encountered in academic studies and/or professional roles.

3. Specialist trauma therapy

I am trained and qualified in EMDR ( Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing) a NICE recommended treatment for trauma. I'm also qualified in TIST (Trauma Informed Stabilisation Treatment ) which is a treatment model designed by world trauma expert, Janina Fisher, for people who have experienced early relational difficulties that continue to adversely impact the present moment.

I have a special interest in working with people who find their relationship to themselves, and others to be difficult.  Outwardly people can find themselves managing life's demands to a high standard  yet internally feel lost, stuck, powerless, lonely, out of balance and at times hopeless.  Sometimes this includes behaving in ways that may feel surprising or concerning to oneself or others.

4. Climate Crisis/Collapse Awareness Support

Prior to training as a therapist, I studied for a degree in Zoology at UCL, London and my love for animals, the 'other than human'  and the natural world continues.

Practice description

Counselling/psychotherapy sessions are 50 mins in length.  EMDR sessions are typically longer at 75-90 mins.

Generally I work with people once weekly but I'm open to different frequencies.  I'm happy to work briefly, or over a longer period of time.

I also offer a one-off therapeutic consultation/conversation lasting 90 mins.

'Walk and talk' sessions (where appropriate) can also be arranged for those who  find movement helpful or who feel more comfortable when outside.  Sessions are held   in the stunning countryside on the edge of the Cotswolds, close to Shipston on Stour.

My first session

I offer a free, no obligation, on-line 20 minute consultation during which time you can meet me and ask any questions that you may have.  On-line sessions are held using Zoom or Teams.

Should you choose to meet with me again, frequency, duration and  focus of sessions can be discussed and future appointments scheduled.
