About me and my therapy practice

About Me

I am a Â鶹ԭ´´ accredited Psychotherapist/Counsellor and Supervisor with over 15 years experience within the NHS, Private Practice and the charity sector.  I have also worked for the last 5 years as a Programme Leader, Lecturer and Supervisor on a counselling degree programme. I am a registered practitioner for Bupa and Aviva.

As an Integrative Relational practitioner I can choose from a range of psychological theories allowing us to tailor the best approach for you, whether that's anxiety, depression, grief or relationship issues, whatever maybe troubling you. I am experienced in working with a broad range of mental health difficulties. I am also trained as a Somatic Trauma Therapist and in EMDR which allows me to further support clients with trauma associated mental health difficulties.

Initial Consultation

I know that seeking support can feel very daunting so I take great care in the initial session to explain the counselling process, explore your expectations and needs, and ensure that you really feel I am the right person to help you. After this we can commit to a further 6-12 sessions if you have a specific issue you want to work on or longer open ended work if appropriate.

I believe trust is central in building a successful therapeutic relationship trust so I provide a warm, empathic, non- judgemental space where we can explore, in complete confidentiality, whatever has led you to counselling.

Location

My private practice is based in North Kingston (about 10 mins walk from the station). It is easily accessible by train and bus and there is free parking on the road. I can offer weekly daytime and evening (last 8pm) as well occasional weekend slots.

Session Fee's

My session fee is £70 an hour with the initial session charged at £50. I do have limited number of concessionary places availiable for students and those on low incomes please do ask.

Practice description

I utilise a cross range of psychological theories depending on what you are bringing but my core belief is that our past influences our present and once we understand the ways in which this maybe limiting us, we can all change and grow to lead happier more fulfilled lives. I can support you in bringing this into awareness which facilitates the change process.

I would approach working with trauma slightly differently as we need to be sensitive to the ways in which it is encroaching into your life and to work safely without risking re-traumatisation. This would involve working on safety and stabilisation techniques initially before exploring whether a talking or EMDR approach might suit you best. Trauma is often held somatically within our bodies so this is also an important area to consider.

EMDR can also be supportive when working with phobias, compulsive disorder, attachment issues and depression.

My first session

I offer my initial session at a reduced rate of £50 as I believe (and research supports this) that one of the most important factors in successful therapy is the relationship we are able to create. I hope this allows you to come along and get a sense of me and how we might work together and makes it a little easier to walk away if you feel I am not the right person for you.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced Integrative Relational Supervisor providing supervision for counsellors, and counsellors-in-training. I work with Individuals and Groups meeting on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. I have been working as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor in the NHS since 2009 and in Private Practice since 2013. I am an Accredited member of Â鶹ԭ´´ and abide by their ethical code. For the last 5 years I have been working as a Programme Leader, Lecturer and Supervisor on a Counselling Degree Programme and prior to this I ran Supervision groups for trainees at the West London Counselling Centre

My aim is to support you in developing insight and competence with your  client work by providing space and encouragement to develop your "internal supervisor", opportunities to explore your work with differing client needs whilst safeguarding integrity and creativity.

I believe that an open, empathic and supportive relationship between counsellor and supervisor is essential.  I aim to provide the following qualities within the supervisory relationship;

- An appreciation and understanding of your objectives when working with a client, including valuing your personal meaning and sense of the work.

- Safety to express fears, doubts and difficult feelings arising from your client work, facilitating the exploration of difficult transferential dynamics and potential blindspots within the therapeutic relationship.

- A space where you can relate your felt experiences within the room and explore their potential meanings.

- Mutuality, openness, creativity and challenge to develop your practice.

- A commitment to safeguard the ethics of the work

I offer supervision face to face and work with both individuals and groups. Fees for individuals are £70 per hour. Fees for groups are arranged by negotiation. The initial session would be an exploratory session where you could discuss your individual requirements and my way of working before committing to ongoing work.

Practice description

My key model for Supervision is Hawkins and Shohet Seven Eyed Model so we will be looking at all the component parts of the relationship and how they come together to impact what happens in the therapeutic space. I enjoy working with creative approaches where possible to circumnavigate our psychological barriers and get in touch with our felt experience.

My first session

Our first session will primarily be exploratory, discussing your training, your theoretical approach and what you are searching for in Supervision so we can see how well we align. I am open to answering any questions you may have about how I practice as my primary aim is to foster a collaborative and supportive environment to support your growth as a practitioner.
