About me and my therapy practice
I have 13 years' experience working with adults with anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, health issues, bereavement and trauma. I have a special interest in chronic pain and illness and I am a member of SIRPA (Stress Illness Recovery Practitioner Association).
As well as my private practice, I work with a charity taking referrals from the NHS, Victim Support and Employee Assistance Programs. I combine theory and interventions from different psychological appraoches. This enables me to be flexible to work with different needs.
I offer a caring, attentive, supportive space, working with you in a way that feels safe, to explore your difficulties, to empower you to find your own way forward and identify what you need to improve your life, emotional well-being and build resilience for further life challenges.
I will be interested in your perception of life, how you have come to this view and whether you may want to change outdated beliefs, distorted perceptions or self defeating attitudes. As you become more self aware you will gain insights to what may troubling or limiting you. It can lead to a clearer view of the choices and possibilities open to you and develop your own ways to move forward confidently and optimistically.
Practice description
I work one to one with adults aged 18 and over. I can see you face to face, via phone or remotely via Zoom . I will be working with you collaboratively, so I will not just sit and litsten. I will be engaging with you to explore with curiosity, the uniqueness of you to enable you to understand what is underlying your difficulties.
I am able to work short-term (usually up to 6 sessions) or longer for deeper exploration. We will review how things are going for you at intervals, to ensure you are getting what you need from our work together.
My first session
Initially, I find it helpful to speak to you on the phone or via Zoom for up to 15 minutes so that we both get an idea of each other before our first session and you can ask me any questions you have.
Our first session will be a full session of 50 minutes and I will be asking some specific questions, such as what would you like to be different in your life, so that we can work towards your goals. At the end of this session we can talk about whether I am the right person to help you, and whether you want to continue to work with me as there will be no obligation to continue.
