About me and my therapy practice
I have over 40 years of experience in the Health and Wellbeing field, working across both the NHS and the voluntary sector. I began my career as a general nurse before specializing in palliative care, providing support to individuals and families facing bereavement. I later worked for many years with The Terrence Higgins Trust, offering one-to-one support to adults and children living with HIV and AIDS.
After earning a degree in Cultural and Women’s Studies in 2000, I worked with a group of young mothers to establish a community-based services supporting other young mothers and their children. In this role, I facilitated workshops and training focused on personal development, assertiveness, confidence building, and relationships.
My therapeutic work has included supporting individuals with addiction issues at the SWAN Project, and more recently, with parents and families of people who identify as transgender.
As a therapist I work in a collaborative way and together we can explore how you can thrive and not just survive. I work on the principle that no matter what we are doing to cope with our pain, it once made sense to us and that it is possible, with practice, to develop new strategies and ways of being. My role is to help you access and make best use of your own resources to achieve a greater sense of well-being.
Practice description
I offer short term counselling 6 to 8 sessions or longer term according to your needs. It is usual practice to meet once a week at an agreed time. Each therapy session last for one hour and usually take place on a weekly basis though sometimes this is negotiable and I am happy to be flexible to fit around shift work.
I am bound by the BCAP code of conduct which states that anything you discuss with me will be kept strictly confidential. In line with Â鶹Դ´ requirements, I meet regularly with a supervisor who works with me to ensure that I am providing you with the best service possible. My supervisor is bound by the same confidentiality boundaries that I am and any information discussed will be treated in confidence. The only reason that I may break confidentiality would be if I considered that you were a risk to yourself or to another person. If at all possible I would discuss this with you beforehand.
My first session
Finding a therapist that you work well with and trust is important. I offer the first session free of charge to see if you would like to work with me and for me to see if I am the best fit for you.
If we decide to move forward to regular sessions I will ask you to complete a form with your contact details and those of an emergency contact and your GP. This is to ensure that should there be a medical emergency during our session I have the information I need to keep you as safe as possible.
I work in Fishponds Bristol. There are a number of bus services to Fishponds Rd. The closest stop is at the end of Lodge Causeway and I am about a 5 minute walk from this stop. The Bristol to Bath cycle track is about 5 minutes away by bike.
