About me and my therapy practice
WENDY SUMMERS Dip.HIPC UKCP full clinical membership, PG Dip.Couns MÂ鶹Դ´, Dip.COT. 35+ years clinical experience as a therapist.
My varied comprehensive training and extensive clinical experience mean that I can help you with most of life’s issues and problems. I have provided thousands of counselling/psychotherapy sessions to clients.
My style is active and involved. I enjoy working in emotional depth. I communicate with clients in a clear and direct way, in a spirit of authenticity and kindness. I greatly value warmth, creativity and imagination. I remain passionate about my work and have a social conscience and sense of humour! I am non religious.
I endeavour to ‘live in good faith with myself’ (being true to myself) whilst enjoying supporting others to do the same. I have enjoyed a full and rich life myself and have encountered many significant challenges along the way! I have a wealth of life experience to draw upon.
The psychotherapy and counselling I offer provide the opportunity for increasing awareness and acceptance of yourself, in the context of an open-minded, warm and supportive relationship.
All of us experience difficulties at times and feel overwhelmed, confused, scared or alone. It is not always easy or practical to confide in friends or family. In such situations, therapy can often be very helpful.
I am here to facilitate you to make informed, wise choices in order for you to live how you want to live.
My Qualifications
- Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapy, 2005, Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute, (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy: accredited course),
- Advanced Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling, 1995, University of Bristol, (British Association for Counselling: accredited course)
- SDS Accreditation in Clinical Supervision, Level 2
- Post Graduate Diploma in Occupational Therapy, 1987 (London School of Occupational Therapy)
- Art and Design vocational qualifications
Practice description
I work exclusively online offering video consultations to adult clients and supervisees living anywhere in the UK and I subscribe to the codes of ethics of Â鶹Դ´, UKCP and Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute.
I am a mature, experienced and compassionate Clinical Psychotherapist (with full clinical membership of United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy), Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (Registered with British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), Supervisor for professional therapists and qualified Occupational Therapist (COT).
I have a special interest in Gestalt therapy, with over 35+ years experience in a wide range of clinical settings (National Health Service/Private Practice), including 17 years within the speciality of long-term pain/chronic illness management.
I have almost 20 years experience as an independent psychotherapist, counsellor and supervisor (outside the NHS). Also experience of facilitating an ongoing counselling supervision group for counsellors at the University of Bath. Contracts with Employment Assistance Providers e.g. providing therapy to BBC employees.
I have previous experience of teaching and managing therapists, working as a freelance consultant employed by a Primary Care Trust: representing counsellors in primary care - NHS counselling/therapy services and team building for NHS professionals
My first session
Free introductory 15 minute telephone conversation. Fees payable thereafter.
Online counselling/psychotherapy is quite similar to Face to Face sessions. I have co created very good therapeutic relationships with my clients via video consultations, even though they are not physically in the same room with me. Many of my clients prefer this way of engaging in therapy as it allows great flexibility. I provide individual therapy and supervision via video consultations.
I offer a free 25 minute video session for those unused to video consultations who are unsure if they would like to work therapeutically in this way, please enquire if applicable.
For video conference therapy to be possible, it is vital that you have a safe, comfortable and quiet room where you can talk with me confidentially without worrying about being overheard or interrupted. Obviously, you will also need a reliable internet connection and a computer/iPad or smartphone!
