About me and my therapy practice

I am a Person-centred, humanistic counsellor. I have been registered with the Â鶹ԭ´´ since 2013, having trained as a counsellor at Chichester University. Before that I was a primary school teacher (Middlesex University, B.Ed. Hons) for more than 20-years.

I have 14 years’ experience as a counsellor for children and young people, both within the voluntary sector and in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS, NHS). I have many years of experience in helping children with special educational needs (SEN) and in the assessment of neurodevelopmental difference (autism and ADHD).

I have worked as a person-centred counsellor in a university counselling setting and as a psychological therapist for adults within the NHS (Time-to-Talk).

My core approach is Humanistic and Person-Centred Counselling (PCC) and, depending on the needs of my client, I integrate Transactional Analysis (TA) and Gestalt Therapy into my work. I am also trained and experienced in offering Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotional Focussed Therapy (EFT) and Solution Focussed Brief Therapy (SFBT).

I adhere to the Â鶹ԭ´´ Ethical Framework: I embrace equality and diversity in therapy. I welcome clients irrespective of age, gender, race, religion, ability (physical and/or mental), sexuality, and socio-economic class.

Practice description

I adhere to the three core principles of Carl Rogers’ person-centred approach whereby the counsellor offers empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence.

I will offer you empathy, approval and acceptance in a safe and non-judgemental environment. We will work together towards your goals. I will not tell you what to do; you will be free to explore your problems in a self-directive way. I will support you through your journey to reduce distress and gain greater insight into your problems, so that you will be able to heal, grow and be motivated to make positive change. It is hoped that by the end of counselling you will have achieved your goals and have gained effective coping strategies and an improved emotional, social and overall well-being.

My first session

During your first session, we will work together to establish a good working relationship.

I will offer you the opportunity to explain what brings you to counselling and to tell me what you want to achieve. We will agree a way of working that would be best suited to you and to your problems. In the first session we will identify and prioritise your goals.

The therapy will be divided into blocks of six sessions, which will be followed by a review.
